Ida Vale Studs are located in Kojonup, Western Australia in the Great Southern region, 2.5 hours south east of Perth. Ida Vale has been a dedicated contributor in the development of White Dorpers and Dorpers in Australia, with importations from many leading South African Studs. We participate in performance testing (Lambplan) and our stock are very highly ranked and linked with other studs and breeds. Performance figures are very important in our selection criteria, especially to identify traits such as fertility, maternal ability and muscling. We also place a strong emphasis on structure and shedding. We enjoy breeding Stud quality animals and we have our sheep classified by South African inspectors. However, the reality of Dorper and White Dorper in Australia is in a commercial sense and we feel our breeding will prevail in soundness and longevity. Ida Vale exhibits in the Western Australia show circuit with great success, proven by our accomplishment as!
the best Dorper Stud for 2004 & 2005 in the show ring.
We also run a 6000 commercial ewe upgraded flock (from F1 - F4), both White Dorper and Dorper. We are very fortunate that these upgrades are with stud White Suffolk or Poll Dorset ewes and this upgraded flock is very impressive and performing well. Our 2nd Cross (F2 - 75%) White Dorper lambs provided the highest loin yield in the 05-06 WAAMCO carcase competition.
