Rules around the handling of exotic sheep in Tasmania may change to benefit breeders, following an assurance from Primary Industries minister David Llewellyn that the regulations will be reviewed.
In 2004 a number of restrictions were put on exotic sheep breeders, following lobbying from Tasmanian wool growers who were concerned their clip could be contaminated from the fibres of the exotic sheep who shed their fleece.
Dorper breeder Jim Lyall from Upper Natone told Eliza Wood that while the number of dorpers in Tasmania has been gradually growing, a commercial dorper industry has been held back by the legislation.
